To study in Australia, Nepali students need to fulfil both English language proficiency and academic requirements. Australian universities offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, each with distinct entry criteria.

Academic Requirements

Undergraduate

+2 / A-levels, equivalent to Australian Senior School Certificate of Education (Year 12).

Some courses may have subject or grade prerequisites.

Postgraduate

Bachelor’s degree with a satisfactory academic record.

Some courses may require relevant work experience or research ability, depending on the field of study.

Compared to countries like the UK and the USA, the cost of university education in Australia is competitive. However, the length of certain degrees is shorter. For instance, a Bachelor’s degree in Australia typically takes three years, whereas in the USA, it usually spans four years.

Documents Required to Enrol in an Australian Program

To apply to an Australian university, you will need the following documents:

  1. Offer Letter from the university
  2. Academic Transcripts from previous studies
  3. IELTS/TOEFL Score for English proficiency
  4. Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
  5. Work Experience Documents (if applicable)
  6. Completed University Application Form

After submitting your application, some universities may ask you to participate in a virtual interview. The processing time for the offer letter can range from 1 to 6 weeks.

Visa Documentation

Once you receive your offer letter, you will need the following documents for the visa application:

  • All Academic Documents (e.g., Transcripts, Provisional Certificates, Character Certificates)
  • 2 Passport-Sized Photos with a white background
  • IELTS/TOEFL Score
  • Financial Documentation: This includes an educational loan or evidence of sufficient funds to cover one year of tuition and living costs. If using a bank balance certificate, it should be at least three months old. The minimum required financial proof includes AUD 18,610 for tuition and living costs for one year, plus AUD 2,000 for travel expenses.
  • Proof of Income: This could include pay slips, income statements, or bank statements.
  • Property Valuation Documents (if applicable)
  • Tax Clearance Certificate
  • CA Report
  • Relationship Certificate (if applying with a spouse)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Police Clearance
  • Citizenship Certificate (translated into English)
  • Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from the university
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Documents Required for Spouses or Dependents

If you are applying with a spouse, you must provide proof of your relationship. This could include:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Evidence of cohabitation (e.g., lease agreements, shared utility bills)
  • Joint financial assets, like bank accounts or property ownership
  • Photos together in various places, or statements from friends or family about your relationship

Additionally, for dependent visas in Australia, you have to show that you can support their living and travel expenses, which is about AUD 6,515 per year plus AUD 2,000 for travel costs.

Interview

  • Living Costs: You should budget approximately AUD 2,000 for pocket money and another AUD 700 for airfare.
  • Total Estimated Costs: For one year, expect to spend between AUD 15,000 to AUD 18,000 (roughly NPR 15 to 18 Lakhs).

If you are bringing a dependent along, the required funds will increase to cover their living costs, which is around AUD 6,515 per year, plus AUD 2,000 for travel.
